Kūmarahou (Pomaderris kumeraho), is a New Zealand endemic shrub tree, which is identified by its bright yellow flowers in the spring. Early phytochemical studies showed that kūmarahou leaves contain quercetin, kaempferol, glycosides of quercetin and kaempferol, myricyl acetate, saponins. These properties are known for soothing and healing skin irritations.

The flower heads and leaves lather up in water and were used by Māori for washing and to alleviate and cure itchy skin. Another name for Kūmarahou is gum digger’s soap, a name relating to kauri gum diggers having used as soap to remove gum resin from their hands.
